In times of technological development, the world often loses touch with the value of true craftsmanship. At Monc, we value the skills of traditional craftsmen; choosing to step away from high volume manufacturing, instead taking the direction of using the highly skilled and experienced artisans in the manufacture of each of our collection.
With transparent manufacturing methods at our core, we want to show you how every product is made, and why. Focusing on the importance of supporting makers and celebrating their craft.
Each of our frames is handmade by our family run artisanal factory in the Neapolitan countryside. In the eyewear industry, you hear the word ‘handmade’ used regularly without true meaning behind it. Unlike other manufacturers these days, our makers stick to traditional techniques and processes.
Their experience guarantees truly authentic products that are made with care. This one-by-one process allows them to concentrate on every individual frame, and make sure that it's built with precision and finished to perfection.
Our quality control is carried out by eye, checking that every frame is fitted and structurally sound to bring a problem-free product for our users. So, when we say that our frames are 100% Handmade in Italy, we truly mean it. From hand cutting the acetate, to gold foiling each embossed detail, the care and precise quality that's gone into each element is truly authentic.
At Monc we believe that it is important to support your local community, so it makes us proud to say that our cases are handmade in England, by a London-based manufacturer. Each stitch around the case, and the embossing that goes with it is done to a precise quality by the eye of truly experienced makers.
This guarantees that each piece is made to the best ability, and will last as it accompanies the frames. As the case is used, the naturally tanned leather will slowly colour due to the sun's rays, the oil on your skin and general wear. It's the amazing experience of naturally tanning leather that we wanted to share by including a complimentary case with every set of frames purchased.
Wanting to give the user an association with each district the frame is inspired by, each pair of sunglasses are accompanied by a micro-fibre cleaning cloth with a painting and story of the corresponding neighbourhood printed on. Collaborating with British artist Elsie Evans, the paintings have been created to capture each area’s unique story.
