WHY DO WE USE IT?

A while ago, we were on the hunt to find a sustainable alternative to foam, which many of you will know is typically plastic based, to store all of our spare lenses. That's when we came across cornstarch foam, a biodegradable compostable and water-soluble starch based foam manufactured from Cornstarch and Soy Oil.

We've been using cornstarch foam for a while now, as it credits itself as the most environmentally sustainable and functional packaging material available. It not only provides great cushioning and thermal insulating protection, but it also protects the planet too.⁠⠀

WHY DO WE USE IT?

Our cornstarch foam is compostable and water-soluble starch based foam is manufactured from Cornstarch and Soy Oil, made with 68% less energy requirements and 76% less greenhouse gas emissions than comparable amounts of polyethylene foam.

The foam provides effective product protection and offers an environmentally safe, zero waste alternative to current synthetic foam products.

After using the foam to store our spare lenses, we've found many other uses. Made to replace traditional packing foam, we have now built a foam 'wave' installation in our store. It was a truly challenging feat that took an enormous amount of problem solving to achieve and the hard work has definitely paid off. It's worth coming in to our store and having a look.

MATERIAL LIFECYCLE

After temporary installation in the store, the foam it will be used again as packaging, then finally, it simply dissolves in water into a nutrient rich solution. Sprinkle this over the plants and the cycle continues.

  • Compost it.
  • Dissolve it.
