This week we’re looking at the series ‘I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating’ by American photographer Alec Soth.

Alec first gained wide acclaim in 2004 after he published his book, ‘Sleeping by the Mississippi,’ which built his reputation as a skilled chronicler of American life, photographing the people and landscapes of suburban and rural communities.

But, in 2016, Soth experienced a sort of ‘epiphany’ while on a trip to Finland. He began to question his work, so took a year-long break from his practice.

He returned with this new body of work - an intimate series of portraits and still-life photographs that explore how our interior spaces are connected with our inner character.

I Know How Furiously Your Heart is Beating’ was published last year in book format and is now on display in a solo exhibition at Foam in Amsterdam.
